The Fernandina Beach High School baseball team is hosting the 39th annual Diamond Classic this week, with games scheduled today and Saturday. The action kicked off Thursday, when the host FBHS Pirates (7-3) faced First Coast at The Ballpark at Fernandina Beach on Hickory Street. West Nassau and Trinity Catholic squared off next, and Fletcher and Bishop Snyder played in the nightcap. West Nassau and Fletcher get things rolling at 1 p.m. today, followed by Bishop Snyder and First Coast at 4 p.m. The Pirates play Trinity Catholic at 7 p.m. First Coast and Trinity Catholic kick the day off at 10 a.m. Saturday, and Bishop Snyder and West Nassau play at 1 p.m. The tournament wraps up with FBHS and Fletcher taking the field at 4 p.m. “The Diamond Classic has the strongest field since I’ve been here,” FBHS coach Jon Shave said. “The Friday night game is a rematch of last year’s region semifinal game against Trinity Catholic.” Purchase individual day tickets at gofan.co.
