The rain has prompted another postponement of the railroad reconstruction work on the Pages Dairy and Chester Road Intersection Improvements project that is set to close a portion of Chester Road.
Nassau County previously said it would close the section of road near the Pages Dairy Intersection at First Coast Railroad Crossing on Thursday. Due to the accumulated rain, the work has been postponed another day.
The county announced the road closure notice today at the Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Commissioner Jeff Gray clarified the information at the meeting. The agenda item included the previous dates of closure, Sept. 19-23. Gray said it had been moved back one more day, Sept. 20-24, "due to the torrential rainfall event that we've been experiencing here in Nassau County."
The railroad reconstruction and road closure start date has now been rescheduled twice due to rain. It was first postponed from Sept. 5 to Sept. 19, because of anticipated rain.
The project is now expected to start Friday, and the county has previously said completion of the reconstruction is expected to take four to five days, potentially including night activities.
The county has said previously that during the reconstruction there will be a detour via Pages Dairy Road to Felmor Road to SR 200 / A1A.
The railroad crossing section of reconstruction will be from Pages Dairy Road intersection at the Railroad Crossing to the entrance of Fantastic Gymnastics.
Construction on the highly-anticipated Pages Dairy and Chester Road Intersection Improvements project began in August and closures are expected throughout the project, expected to take approximately 465 days. Competition is expected in November 2025.
The project will include widening and resurfacing of Chester Road from David Hallman Parkway to Courtney Isles Way, construction of turn lanes, addition of bike lanes, utility improvements, drainage improvements, a new traffic signal at Chester and Pages Dairy and other additions.
Other closures:
In other Nassau County closures, The county announced a complete closure is expected at South Fletcher Avenue under the golf cart bridge from Oct. 7 - Oct. 20. The closure is due to repairs being done on the golf cart bridge across State Road A1A (South Fletcher Ave.), which also will be closed.
