Yulee High School seniors Tyler Osborne and Aliyah Guzman won first place April 1 during a Florida Civics and Debate Initiative competition in Orlando.

The students were tasked to debate a policy scenario about whether the U.S. government should increase its cooperation with NATO concerning artificial intelligence, biotechnology and cyber security.
Guzman said that her participation with the debate team as a freshman encouraged her to study law. Now a senior, she was recently accepted into Stetson University, receiving a $36,000 college scholarship. She plans to pursue a law career after she finishes her undergraduate degree. Janice Van Delinder teaches the students.
