The Fernandina Beach Market Place farmers market and the Fernandina Beach Arts Markets will return to historic downtown Saturday. Open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., these two markets offer more than 70 booths of seasonal produce, fresh baked breads, wood working, fine and whimsical jewelry and more. You will find the farmers market lining North Seventh Street from Centre to Alachua streets. Homemade guacamoles and salsa, baked pastries, Red Flag hot sauces, flavored salts, African Love Kitchen and Me Myself and Pies will all be in attendance Saturday. This pie shop only comes to the farmers market once per month, and they specialize in savory pies such as pot pies, quiche and cottage or shepherd pies. In their dessert category, they have mouthwatering-flavors like key lime, strawberry crumb, apple lattice, derby and a chocolate chess pie with strawberry glaze. Talk to them about their special-order variety packs. Also in the farmers market this week, you will find Lizzie’s Cheese Straws, Hillary’s Chicago Pizza, Chef Bill has been working on some new surprises, and Sea Shore Terrariums will be at the market. Enjoy a huge variety of plants for gifts, your home or your yard with succulents, vegetables and herbs from Seven Trees Nursery. Beautiful orchids from Jaxma Orchids, and Robert Young with Everblooming Nursery brings four booths full of patio and landscaping plants like hibiscus, bromeliads, rose bushes and more.

Adjacent to the farmers market, in the back parking lot of Pineland Bank, is the Arts Market. With 30 tents of fine arts and crafts, you will find acrylics, mixed media, tie dye, pet collars and leashes, watercolors, fabrics and apparels and children’s gifts, and don’t forget this Sunday is Mother’s Day. You will certainly find something fun and unique for mom at either market.

Hand-crafted soaps, pillow sprays and home-grown loofah sponges are available at Osborne Ranch, unique soy candles will be in both markets, and amazing belly jewelry from Bougie B will be in the Arts Market. Also, author and illustrator Mike Crowder will be at the market to sign his very special books. Grey Sheep graphics offer original art for original minds; these are not your normal “A is for apple” alphabet reading books. Learning the alphabet has been kicked up a notch, and parents and grandparents alike will enjoy reading to the youngsters “C is for coelacanth.” His other book, “Hammy Hammerhead’s (almost) Big Adventure,” is a story about a young hammerhead shark who is having one of those days. First, he has to clean his room before he can hang out with his friends, the bull shark, the Mako shark and the nurse shark, who want to get in a game of pufferball, when, of course, the great white shark shows up. Mike also creates custom alphabet prints for your favorite name or letter.

Music is provided by pianist David Crout, and Summerhouse is our business of the week. They offer real estate and event location services. Come on out and meet your neighbors and make new friends.

Taking a stroll through your local farmers market will get your Saturday off to a great start. The Fernandina Beach Market Place and the Arts Market will always be a family-friendly event where there is something for everyone, and your well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome, too. To learn more, find both markets on Facebook and online.
