CANDIDATE STATEMENT

Editor’s Note: David Dew is running for School Board for Nassau County School, District 3. Dew submitted the following for publication.

My name is David Dew candidate for NCSB D3. I'm a concerned parent running on behalf of all blue-collared, hard-working taxpayers of Nassau County. I’m here to represent the entire community

I'm a 4th generation Yulee resident. I’ve spent my entire life here in Nassau County. I attended YPS, YES, YMS and FBHS.

I serve my community as a volunteer. I spend most of my free time trying to make Yulee and Nassau County a better place.

I’m the Director of the Yulee Holiday Parade which put on a float parade near the Nassau Sports Complex. I also organize a large golf cart trunk or treat event that provides a safe and fun place for kids in our county to enjoy Halloween.

I’m a committee member for Katelyn’s Ride for Autism which is a Golf Cart Poker Run Event that raises funds for special needs children here in our county.

I volunteer with Keep Nassau Beautiful, in community cleanups and my son and I sponsor the John F Claxton Boat Ramp and clean the roads throughout our neighborhood.

I volunteer at the local elementary school, primary school and Yulee Baptist Learning Center.
I started a bicycle refurbishing program where my son and I take used donated bikes, repair them and give them to children in our community at Christmas time to promote physical fitness and activities to the kids. We also built a large free sharing library and placed it at the Wilson Neck Boat Ramp to keep books in the hand of children all year long to promote literacy.

I’m running for school board because I’m a concerned parent. This isn’t a stepping stone for a future position. I’m not using this to get elected down the road for a bigger and better-elected office. I’m running because I care about the community that I grew up in. The community that molded and shaped me. The community that I belong to and actively support. I’m running because of you all, the people that I volunteer for. I’m running for the children that excel in our district and I’m running for the children who have had some sort of issue. I’m not here for my benefit, to draw a paycheck, I’m a Civil Service employee for the Department of Defense. I’m here because like you, I’ve experienced the stubbornness of trying to get results from the school district and some administrators. I’m here because I’ve felt unheard and ignored. I’m here for my rights, your right and the rights of our children. I’m here to listen to your concerns, questions and complaints… I’m here to shuffle through the paperwork and do research to improve our budget spending, to improve our policies that affect our children, to get the parents and community more involved with the decision-making process. I’m here to evaluate what’s going wrong and to keep working on what’s going right. I’m here trying to keep Nassau County School District on the path of maintaining or place as one of the top-rated Districts in the state and better yet, to get us on par with the rest of the country’s top-performing districts.

I can stand up here and make a million promises to get elected, but at the end of the day, the district needs a person who’s honest, hardworking and ready to get their boots on the ground to help the students of our county be prepared for success.
