After decades of public service, Clerk John A. Crawford has announced his retirement, effective at the end of this current term. Crawford has served as the Nassau County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for four consecutive terms, beginning January 2005. He also served our county as a county commissioner from 1990-98. Crawford has been a tireless advocate for innovation, transparency and service to the citizens of Nassau County and the state of Florida.
Crawford would like the citizens of Nassau County to know how profoundly honored and privileged he feels to have been able to serve you for all of these years.
As he will not be seeking reelection in November, Crawford is endorsing his current chief of operations, Mitchell Keiter, as Nassau County’s next Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. Keiter has been with the clerk’s office almost as long as Crawford, coming onboard in September 2005. Prior to becoming the chief of operations in 2017, Keiter served as chief deputy of compliance and accountability and chief deputy of information technologies. His years of experience in this office would prove to be invaluable as the incoming clerk.
Crawford encourages the citizens of Nassau County to support Keiter as he runs for this elected office in November.
The Florida Constitution established the Clerk of the Circuit Court as a public trustee, responsible for safeguarding public records and public funds. Clerk John A. Crawford is independently elected by and accountable to the Nassau County residents. In addition to the roles of clerk of the circuit court, county recorder and clerk of the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners, the clerk is the chief financial officer and auditor for Nassau County.
