The Active After 50 Group, the largest producer of expos for consumers 50-plus years of age in Northeast Florida, announces the third annual News-Leader Active After 50 Expo at Fernandina Beach High School Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The expo promotes a healthy active lifestyle. Presented by Millennium Physician Group in association with Active After 50 Online, the event is free to all who attend. Nassau County Gen Xers, Baby Boomers, seniors, caregivers, family members and professionals who serve the Baby Boomer and senior community are encouraged to attend. More than 50 vendors will be on hand.

Attendees will enjoy a diverse range of exhibitors, fitness and nutrition tips, live music, free health screenings, pickleball, dance, job and volunteer opportunities and a free raffle with lots of door prizes.

The generation gap is dwindling, boomers are rapidly becoming seniors, and options for seniors have changed considerably.

“Seniors are living longer and healthier lives. It is so important to remain active. This event helps connect you with the services you might need,” said Sara Malone, event director of the Active After 50 Expo.

Also, for pickleball players and those who want to learn how to play or current players who want to improve, Cyndi Roberts, PPR certified pickleball instructor, will be on hand to give free instruction. A full-sized pickleball court will be set up, and if you don’t have one, paddles will be provided. Roberts will give pickleball tips and an introduction to the game. Sponsored by Selkirk Sport, pickleball instruction will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For a $5 donation, expo attendees have a chance to win Selkirk Pickleball gear, including a new paddle, sling bag and hats.

ElderSource, a nonprofit serving Nassau County, sponsors a fundraiser for its Senior to Senior program, which helps seniors who are facing an unexpected financial crisis. The program covers things like dental work, new glasses, rent, etc. Appearing live at 11 a.m. at the Active After 50 Expo are professional dancers from Ballroom on Amelia. Stick around for a Tai Chi demonstration by Pak’s Karate Academy.

Be sure to participate in the Passport to Prizes program. By just collecting initials from participating vendors, you can enter to win the grand prize – two tickets to One Night of Queen at the Florida Theatre. Additional prizes will also be given away. Local Active After 50 Expo sponsors include the Fernandina Beach News-Leader, Millennium Physician Group, BEMER Group, Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, Florida Eye Specialists, Ballroom  of  Amelia and Selkirk Sport.

For any additional expo vendor or attendee information, send an email to Sara@ActiveAfter50Group.com or call 904-829-4502.
