Mr. Dwight David Lyle
Mr. Dwight David Lyle, 73, Fernandina Beach, passed away on Monday evening, July 10, 2017 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
Born in Alma, Ga., he was one of 11 children born to the late David William Lyle and Carra Mae Gregory. He grew up in Alma, where he was a graduate of Bacon County High School, class of 1962. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served as a communication specialist until retiring from Fort Sill, Okla. During his 23 years of active duty service, he served four tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea and five years in Germany. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Dorothy Kelley, moved to Fernandina Beach. Since settling here, he has worked as a maintenance mechanic at the Amelia Island Plantation.
He enjoyed fishing, time with his family and piddling with things at home.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, James Lyle, and a sister, Ann McIntosh.
Mr. Lyle leaves behind his wife, Dorothy Lyle, Fernandina Beach; children, Sheri Adams (Marvin), Lawton, Okla., Jesse Preston Rogers (Jean), Stuart, Fla., Terry Wayne Rogers (Lauri), Lexington, N.C., Johnny Lionel Rogers (Gloria), Columbia, S.C.; brothers, Paul Lyle, Jacksonville, Mark Lyle, Fernandina Beach, Joe Lyle, Yulee, John Lyle, Yulee, Jesse Lyle, Fernandina Beach; sisters, Dot Cook, Fernandina Beach, Wanda Meeks, Lagrange, Ga., Brenda Edge, Winder, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, at The Anchor Church of God in Callahan with Pastor Dwight Allen officiating.
Mr. Lyle will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army Ceremonial Honors Detachment.
His family will receive friends on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
