Yulee man arrested after ‘shots fired’ incident
Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of shots fired at Locals Cocktail Lounge in Fernandina Beach on Sunday night, according to an arrest report. The bar is outside of the city limits at 869 Sadler Rd.
An NCSO deputy who is employed by Locals told the responding deputy that the suspect left the parking lot in a silver Chevrolet car. The deputy working at Locals said a physical altercation had occurred in the parking lot between the suspect, Garrett L. Gagnon, 21, and an unknown female. Several people were attempting to break it up when Gagnon allegedly pulled a firearm and shot at one of the men, according to the report.
The male victim told the responding officer he was attempting to break up the fight when Gagnon became irate with the victim and “brandished a handgun.”
“The victim stated the suspect then fired the handgun at him at least one time, possibly two. The victim stated he was in fear for his life during this time. The victim stated the suspect entered into a gray or silver Chevrolet four door and fled the scene,” according to the report.
The responding deputy talked to multiple witnesses who, the report says, “all stated the same as the victim.”
Deputies then went to an address on Deerwood Drive in Yulee and located Gagnon, who was taken to the NCSO facility for an interview. The victim identified Gagnon as the person who allegedly fired at him while Gagnon was at the facility. The report says Gagnon was then advised of his rights, stated he understood his rights, requested an attorney, and was not asked any questions. He was then arrested, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to jail for booking.
