Fourth Congressional District Rep. John Rutherford visited the Port of Fernandina Thursday to be briefed on the work done so far this year to dredge the turning basin there.

The $4,317,000 dredging project was approved and funded in Fiscal Year 2020, on Sept.16, and will be completed in the first quarter of the Corps’ Fiscal Year 2021, in about 30 days or mid-November.

Corbett said, “This a really fine port. The only problem was the depth of the turning area, which this dredging will correct. First time this has been done in 20 years.”

Fullwood added it was in the planning stage in 2000.
