News-Leader obituary/death notice policy

The News-Leader strives to make this list a complete record of deaths involving Nassau County residents and their families. Please ask your funeral home or cremation society to fax us or email us all death notices.
The death notice listings are free and include the deceased's name, age, town/city, date of death, service date and time and name of the funeral home or cremation society handing the arrangements.
For a paid detailed obituary, the fee is $65, plus $10 if you would like to include a (thumbnail) photo. Please have your funeral home email the information to, fax it to (904) 261-3698, or families may fill out and submit the form below.
For both paid obituaries and free funeral notices, proof of death is needed when the information is not submitted by a funeral home. Proof of death can be a statement from the funeral home on its letterhead stating it is handling arrangements, a bill from the home, publication in another newspaper, or a death certificate.
Deadline for death notices and obituaries is noon Tuesday/noon Thursday for the next day's publication. For information call (904) 261-3696.
