UPDATED OCT. 19, 2017 AT 4:15 P.M.
A multi-vehicle accident east of Chester Road on S.R. 200/A1A near Amelia Concourse on Monday snarled traffic for over two hours and sent two people to the hospital.
Local photographer Leroy Cumbie wrote the News-Leader in an email that there was a “huge traffic backup eastbound” after the accident occurred around 3:15 p.m.
Cumbie also reported that Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Florida Highway Patrol officers, and Nassau County Fire-Rescue Engine 70 and Rescues 70 and 71 went to the scene.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was being driven westbound on S.R. 200/A1A by Lisa Maria Mason of Callahan when she attempted to make a left hand turn into the Winn-Dixie parking lot at 96076 Lofton Square Court.
A 1990 Ford Bronco was being driven east on S.R. 200/A1A by Jennifer A. Johnson of Fernandina Beach when Mason pulled out in front of the Bronco, causing the Bronco to overturn and collide with a 2015 Ford Focus being driven by Diane B. Hall. Hall was stopped while attempting to make a right turn from the parking lot onto S.R. 200/A1A.
The report by FHP Officer Sergey Morozov says Mason failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic.
Both Mason and Johnson were transported to Baptist Medical Center Nassau. A passenger in the Bronco, Brittany Elizabeth Edwards of Yulee, was transported to the UF Jacksonville hospital.
