Log truck spills load in Fernandina Beach
A log truck headed to the Rayonier Advanced Materials mill overturned at the intersection of Gum and South Eighth streets on Friday morning, July 29, spilling logs onto the side of the road and a sidewalk. There were no injuries. The driver of the truck owned by Pete Cooper was cited for careless driving. A similar accident occurred at the same site two years ago, prompting citizen concerns about the safety of pedestrians who could have been standing on the sidewalk at the time of either accident. A section of Gum Street was blocked off most of the day to allow for clean up.
