Highway Patrol monitoring smoke from Hilliard wildfire
The Florida Highway Patrol released a statement Monday morning warning motorists about the smoke from a 6-acre wildfire in the area of US 1 and Andrews Road in Hilliard which could affect roadways in Nassau County. Use caution when traveling in the area. Visibility can deteriorate quickly. Reduce speed and use low-beam headlights. The Florida Forest Service says the fire is 100 percent contained and crews are "Mopping up. (They) put 900-gal water yesterday, smoking on the interior," according to a report of all active wildfires in Northeast Florida. The fire was west of US 1 and south of Andrews Road, according to FFS. The FFS report adds that the cause of the fire was "railroad."
