The Lady Pirates are district runners-up. The Fernandina Beach High School girls golf team (381) finished second to Ponte Vedra (311) in the tournament held Monday at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club.
Bishop Kenny (382) finished third, and all three teams advance to the region tournament. Also competing Monday were Stanton (417), Riverside (436), West Nassau (478) and Paxon (485).
Yulee’s Abby Curry, competing individually, shot a 109 to finish18th overall.
FBHS freshman Elle Reisner posted a 76 and was second overall. Junior Sady Campbell (81) was sixth overall, senior captain Sarah Smith (111) was 20th overall, sophomore Zoey Gamba (113) was 21st overall, and junior Avery Bellew (136) was 33rd overall.
“Super proud of these girls,” said Christina Steffen, head girls and boys golf coach at FBHS. “They have worked really hard this season and finally starting to all come together.
“We were seeded second by one stroke over Bishop Kenny, and to beat them by just one shot was amazing. Girls were just thrilled because, both times we played them in regular season matches, we did not beat them.”
The FBHS boys hosted the district tournament at Oak Marsh on Tuesday.
