On Tuesday, March 19, Nassau County stood in line to cast their votes in the presidential preference primary election.
“After completing 11 days of early voting, eight of which are statutorily mandated, followed by election day on March 19, Nassau County had a 22.5% voter turnout during the Presidential Preference Primary,” said Supervisor of Elections Janet H. Adkins. “This represents 3,554 Vote-by-Mail ballots, 3,570 Early Vote ballots and 2,838 Election Day ballots.”
Adkins stated that she “applauds Nassau County voters for having one of the highest voter turnout rates in Northeast Florida for the Presidential Preference Primary Election. Voter turnout for surrounding counties are as follows: Baker 20.58%, Clay 16.5%, Duval 19.27%, Flagler 25.3% and St. Johns 18.88%.”
“People seemed very excited and eager to vote,” said Jennifer Murot, an election worker since 2018 and stationed as a clerk at the Springhill Baptist Church precinct location.
“The Springhill location is really two locations and usually has a high turnout,” said Murot. “It was pretty steady all day.”
Murot said she enjoys helping with the process of an election and enjoys seeing the turnout of those who want to vote.
“I encourage everyone to early vote for the primary and general elections,” said Murot. “I have a feeling it will be very busy.”
“We are working diligently to build trust and transparency in our elections process in Nassau County,” stated Adkins. “That starts with providing more opportunities for our voters to cast their ballots.”
